Okay, I know this sounds ridiculous, but one of my teachers (a chemistry teacher) told us this. One of the very best things for acne is zinc oxide. And the easiest place to find zinc oxide? Diaper rash cream. Me and several of my friends have tried this and it actually works. I know it sounds gross, but the diaper rash cream is unused (hopefully!) so it's really not bad at all. I use it as part of my acne treatment routine, applying it after my main cleanser, leaving it on for about 10 minutes, then rinsing with cool water.

I looked it up
Okay, so I totally didn't believe this, but I looked it up:
"a medical study published in Dermotologic Surgery, the official publication of the American Society for Dermotologic Surgery, determines that topical ointment or cream treatments including zinc oxide show a reduction in the production of sebum and increased lesion reducing efficacy"
Also, zinc boosts the immune system, which is very important in allowing the body's natural defenses help combat that acne.

And does diaper rash cream contain zinc oxide? It sure does!

I guess there's still some question as to whether the zinc oxide in diaper rash cream works for acne. If anyone tries this please share your experiences here in the comments.
Trying it out :)
When I got off of birth control my hormones wen absolutely crazy and I have had the worst acne of my life ever since. I found out not long ago that I have a zinc deficiency (white on my nails gave it away). Turns out there was zinc in my BC. I am now taking a supplement and trying out diaper cream-- my sister recommended this, so I am really hoping it works! Ill keep ya posted!
It works!
I know - it does sound gross but it totally works!!
For years, I've been using Desitin (diaper rash ointment - 40% zinc oxide) on my skin as an overnight facial and it truly works. It smells a little fishy, and it kind of gets all over the pillow sometimes, but if you can stand it, it really works!! I only use it about once a month, or when needed, leave it on overnight, and then in the morning, I have amazing skin! I've also noticed that it lightens my skin a bit, kind of brightens it. It's fantastic!
It really, truly works and I love it! I've tried almost every other acne treatment there is, but nothing has been better than this. I know, it's hard to believe red marks and acne go away overnight, but they do! Try it!

Try Zinc Oxide on Face
Hi, to get rid of acne I would suggest you to use ZNO on ur face daily. You can purchase it as powder form and make a thick gel with water and apply on whole face. NO SIDE EFFECT. You can keep it for 30 mins or more and wash it with any soap or facewash. Also, with this you can take 30-50 mg. of Zinc pills as well.
break outs
break outs below the jawline are usually caused from stress!
Why does everyone keep saying
Why does everyone keep saying it's gross it's not like it's inn my daughters butt and then I put it on my face lol
...
maybe the correct word instead of gross would be "different" "strange" or "weird". If people really thought it was gross, then they wouldn't be putting it on their baby's butt
I had a revelation the other
I had a revelation the other day myself, I have recently been struggling with acne (again) after a number of years of relief, but I know its hormone (as well as stress I thought) related. I am 35 and after 6 months of bad acne, a combination of a rash like 'bumps' on my forehead, and cyst like acne around my jaw as well as those horrible blind ones that hurt like crap and ache but don't actually come out, and blackheads, whiteheads, and the huge ones that erupt like a volcano....yep i was over it lol. sooo i got thinking, i take zinc orally so why not try it topically. so the next time i was doing my shopping i stopped in the baby aisle section and studied the nappy rash creams available (knowing they contain substantial levels of zinc) i found one that was 40% and bought it as well as the sudocreme a more common brand at 20%. so immediately that night i applied the cream and as it goes on like a mask decided to keep it on overnight. well OMG the transformation the next morning was unbelievable. not only were my forehead bumps nearly all gone, my face just looked brighter and clearer in general. you must give it a go. so after only one application, i am unsure if this is going to continue to be beneficial, but i think i will only do the stronger one weeking, and spot treat in between. i hope any one else who reads and tries this has successful results also... good luck
Zinc oxide works great on acne!
I have tried all the acne products out there ... including Differin topical creams. I was at my wits end! I am a nurse, we always apply zinc to my patients' skin so i figured I would start taking zinc tabs by mouth and try some zinc oxide based topical creams for my face ... skeptical, but willing to try anything. I started about 2 months ago and LOVE IT! Works great!!!! I clean my face thoroughly every night and apply a mask of it and wake up in the morning looking great ... now I just need to work on the dark circles under my eyes ..... hmmm ....
zinc oxide and acne
This does work. I am an adult with terrible cystic acne that's leaving open lesions on my face. I think I am developing allergies to benzoyl peroxide and some prescription products too. they cause intense itching which leads to scratching which exacerbates the cysts. So I put a dab of zinc oxide on the cysts at night with a spot bandaid over that and it stops the pain, the itch, and I'm seeing a resolution in the cysts. I started reading cosmetic labels and found that Physicians Control has a kit for camouflaging acne and scars. The mineral powder in the kit contains zinc. And ELF cosmetics has a small canister of a white power for covering up acne. this powder contains 3% sulfur. the combination of the zinc powder and the sulfur powder are starting to help. Acne is unending, unrelenting battle. You must be diligent in your skin care. Cetaphil now has a bar soap with Triclosan, a mild antibacterial agent. I wash my face as often as it gets oily or sweaty and this soap is gentle.
Going to try it...
Well, I have had problems with acne since I was 14. I went to the dermatologist and used more treatment medications than I can possibly count. I found that using Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser is the only soap I can use on my face that doesn't break me out. And it sounds weird but I also use hydrocortisone cream 1% as a moisturizer. I wash my face morning and night with cetaphil and apply about a pea size amount of cream to my entire face. I have really bad cysts that come up along my jaw line and only a few little red pimples on my forehead. When I began taking BC, it really helped clear my face up. However, I am off BC now and have terrible acne again. I'm 23 and have PCOS which causes really really bad acne. I stumbled on this page and decided, what the heck? why not give it a try? So, I'm going to try this diaper rash cream treatment and I will let you know how it goes! Hope this works! (crossing fingers) :)
As a little recommendation,
As a little recommendation, I'm a medical student, and I think you should not use Hydrocortisone on your acne, it will only make it worse, and it can make your skin thin (atrophiate it) with chronical use, you can get something called teleangiectasia, which is when you can see the little vessels, from the thinning of the skin...
Zinc Oxide Cream and Acne
I've been reading through the various comments on the effectiveness of zinc oxide on acne, and I really believe it works...but I just came across an article about "Milia seeds" I know, sounds gross, I didn't know what it was either...anyway, it turns out they are little pimple-like bumps under the skin, particularly the eye area, caused by pore blockage, and excess kerotin/oil build up...apparently hard to get rid of. But listen, apparently heavy creams around the eye area can cause this....sooo, I would avoid Oxide cream, or any other heavy cream around the eye. Just fyi, I thought I would share..:)
I'm trying it.
So I came across the answer to spots is zinc.
You cant really buy zinc oxcide in a pure cream form, but as this article says, Nappy rash cream has it in!
I haven't found a really high percentage cream so I'm using sudocream :) 20% I think.
The first time I tried this the next day I broke out big time. Lots and lots of spots. But I guess that was my skins way of clearing itself.
Now I scrub my face with standard run of the mill scrub just to get off any make up and to loosen the dirt ect my face has gathered during the day.
Apply a thin layer across the whole of my face, and applying a little extra to any monsters that have reared their ugly heads!! Leave it on over night :)
In the morning so far my skin is looking brighter, still a little spotty but day by day its getting better. Its softer and generally healthy looking.
People cant expect an immediate change, your skin will adjust.
Its not a over night miracle worker, but, its the cheapest most effective way I've found so far. I love it :)
If I could find a higher zinc cream I'd def use it!!
I have tried it
I don't usually get acne but when I get razor bumps I put some on and it does work great! I put it on the razor bumps at night and in the morning my skin does seem to look brighter. Almost like it heals overnight. I haven't done it in awhile, mostly because I'm lazy but I plan on doing it tonight. You can see my before and after pictures here: http://www.itsthatgirl.com
